Waagan Galga is a 100% Aboriginal-owned and operated not-for-profit organisation based on Wonnarua Country in Singleton. We provide cultural programs, immersions and events to community across Singleton, Muswellbrook and the Upper and Lower Hunter regions of NSW.
Founded in 2021 by Jacob Ellis, Jade Perry, and Waylon Boney - all with deep ties to Wonnarua Country, Waagan Galga is dedicated to preserving and sharing Indigenous culture, while empowering the community to thrive.
‘Waagan Galga’ means a group of crows. The Waagan (crow) holds deep significance in our beliefs, kinship systems and connection to the creation time (Ngurrampaa). As our community grows in knowledge and embraces the wisdom of the old ways, we become clever together just like Waagan Galga.
Our Mission is to connect Indigenous people with their heritage, fostering health, wellbeing, and unity through cultural programs and initiatives.
Our Vision is create and strengthen a community where people feel connection and a sense of belonging to land and each other. Where young people and their families feel resilient, healthy and supported in their life journey and to achieve positive educational outcomes.
Through our cultural programs, educational initiatives, and community events, we strive to bring people together and share the wisdom of the past, ensuring that our traditions flourish for future generations.
We acknowledge the Earth as our Mother 'Guuni Thakun' and that she gives us everything we need, we acknowledge Baiame as our Father and that he has given us life, Lore and belonging and he lives in the sky and we acknowledge that everything in between Guuni Thakun and Baiame are our brothers and sisters and we are apart of them and they are apart of us.
